The Philadelphia Phillies won 95 games in 2024 and yet it seems like they are trying to get a massive deal done this winter.
Philadelphia doesn’t necessarily need to make a significant change after looking good in 2024, but the Phillies’ front office is aggressive. The Phillies aren’t afraid to make a splash and they reportedly will meet with New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto, according to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
“The Phillies haven’t met with Juan Soto yet but they plan to,” Heyman said. “Not many teams want to win more than them.”
The Phillies need an offensive upgrade in the outfield, and Soto obviously would provide that. He’s a 26-year-old generational talent that immediately would make the Phillies one of the top contenders in the National League. Philadelphia has a chance to contend in 2025, but adding Soto would put them right up with there with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Soto has plenty of ties to the Phillies and played with Trea Turner, Bryce Harper, and Kyle Schwarber among others. If the Phillies want to make a statement, landing Soto certainly would be a good one.
He will cost a lot with many projecting him to receive a deal in the range of $600 million. Could that be with the Phillies? Philadelphia surely will be looking to add this winter and it seems like it will at least try to bring Soto to town.
