Steve Cherundolo: “We Know What We Can Do in Big Games”
LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo remains confident in his team’s ability to perform on the big stage, following their 2-1 victory over the Seattle Sounders in the MLS Western Conference Final. In a post-match interview, Cherundolo emphasized the team’s resilience and mental strength, particularly in high-pressure situations.
“We know what we can do in big games,” Cherundolo said. “The guys showed incredible character and focus, and we’ve built a mentality here at LAFC that allows us to step up when it matters most.” The victory secured LAFC’s place in the MLS Cup final, a competition they’ve been striving to win since their formation in 2014.
Cherundolo, who had a distinguished playing career with the U.S. Men’s National Team and in the German Bundesliga, knows the value of experience when facing top-tier opponents. “We trust in our process, and we trust each other,” he added.
LAFC’s performance against Seattle displayed their tactical discipline, individual brilliance, and collective spirit. Cherundolo praised the efforts of his squad, notably the standout performances from captain Carlos Vela and striker Denis Bouanga.
As the team prepares for the final, Cherundolo’s belief in his players’ abilities is unwavering. “We know we can handle the pressure. The big moments bring out the best in us,” he concluded. The upcoming MLS Cup final promises to be a defining moment for both the coach and his players.
